Google Adsense – Still Generating Residual Income

For most internet marketers, residual income first starts with Google Adsense. Probably the most widely used form of online advertising, it’s a must for many webmasters. While it’s true that the Adsense boom time of massive payouts was a couple of years ago, for many it’s still a good way of generating ongoing residual income. If you’re new to Adsense read on to discover what it’s all about.

The basic premise of Adsense is that it delivers targeted ads to your website. In other words, if you have a website about cakes, you will get adverts showing on your site for cakes delivery, cake making equipment and so on. And because the visitors to your website are there to find out about cakes, they are much more likely to click on an ad for a related product.

Advertisers pay Google to have ads on websites, and part of that revenue is paid to you by Google when a visitor clicks on an ad and visits the advertiser’s site. So it’s a win-win situation for all parties involved, particularly if the advertiser makes a sale.

The revenue, which can range from a few cents to a few dollars depending on the ads, collects in your Google account until it reaches $100. You receive it around the end of the following month.

Google Adsense is easy to set up. You have first to apply to Google for an account – you will need a website with some content on it to get a yes from them. A good tip if you don’t yet have a site is to set up a Blogger blog; it’s free and Blogger is owned by Google. Once they have approved your application, you can put adsense on any websites that you own from then on in. It comes in the form of a few lines of code, generated on your Adsense set up page on the main site, that you place on your website, preferably in the top half of the page, where visitors can’t miss seeing it.

You may be wondering how you manage to get the right ads on your website; that is, relevant to your content. Well, it’s that same content that brings the correct ads, but only if you have the right keywords and phrases within it. A good way to find out the correct words and phrases to use on your site (the ones that people are searching on Google for and the ones that advertisers are paying for), is to use Google’s AdWords Keyword tool. At the time of writing, keying the word “cakes” into the tool comes up with “designer cakes”, “children’s birthday cakes”, “celebration cakes” and much more. If your website articles contain some of those words and phrases, then your site will show the correct adverts. Don’t worry if they don’t show up immediately; it can take a little while.

There are two rules you must observe when using Google Adsense – firstly, do not use more ads than permissible under Google’s terms of service. Secondly, NEVER click on your own ads or get family and friends to click on them. That’s a surefire way to get kicked out of the program.

So there you have it; a simple overview of the most well known of all the methods for generating residual income – Google Adsense. If you haven’t got it on your site, why not sign up today and give it a try?
